Day 1: San Jose

Today, guests will arrive at the airport in San Jose where they will meet their tour guide. He will help you handle your information package such as travel itinerary in detail, vouchers for services, and etc. Afterwards we will head to the hotel. Along the way your tour guide will make a brief introduction about Costa Rica and some recommendations for your trip. Uppon arrival in the hotel you can enjoy dinner there and get ready to start a fun trip early tomorrow.

Day 2: San Jose - Tortuguero National Park (86 km)

Today the tour guide will meet you early in the morning at hotel and then start traveling northeast to the Caribbean lowlands from San Jose. We will firstly cross through the Braulio Carrillo National Park and then you will stop for breakfast at Guapiles. After breakfast we will continue to La Pavona dock and from there you will board the boat that will take us to our hotel located in the Tortuguero National Park area. In the afternoon we will visit the Village of Tortuguero where we could visit the Turtle Museum and walk around this town to learn about the relaxed way of life in the Caribbean part of Costa Rica. We will return to the hotel after this interesting trip.

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park

After breakfast we will take a boat tour in the Tortuguero National Park accompanied by a local nature guide. We may find many species of wildlife when go deep into the canals of the park such as capuchin monkeys, dozens of species of birds and even endangered West Indian Manatee. Then we will enjoy a lunch at the lodge. Afterwards the tour guide will take us to a private nature trail where you can find wildlife. Then we could enjoy the rest of this day at our leisure. You can relax at the swimming pool, enjoy a cocktail while admiring the river lagoon or spend the afternoon on the beach.

Day 4: Tortuguero - Puerto Viejo Beach (120 km)

After breakfast, we will meet at the main dock of the hotel to return by boat to Pavona's dock; from there we will continue with land transportation to Guapiles where we could enjoy another delicious Caribbean lunch. After lunch we will be pickded up to Puerto Viejo Beach. By the end of the afternoon, you will enjoy a special cooking class with the help of an experienced Chef. Of course, you will enjoy the fantastic dish prepared as dinner. Overnight in Puerto Viejo Beach.

Day 5: Puerto Viejo Beach

Today is free for us to enjoy the gold sand beaches and lush forest near the coast. A good idea is to rent a bicycle and explore the many beaches around or visit the beach town of Puerto Viejo where you can find local restaurants with delicious and economic meals, bars with cheap beer and souvenir shops. Some of the beaches you can visit in a day are Manzanillo, Playa Grande, Uvita, Chiquita, Cocles and Playa Negra. You could also visit Cahuita National Park on your own or hire a local guide If you want to take a good hike and see wildlife.

Day 6: Siquirres - La Fortuna (93 km)

Today we will take a White water rafting in Pacuare River accompanied by our tour guide. Along the ride you will face exhilarating rapids that will keep you alert. Once half of the river is completed, the tour guide will prepare a picnic lunch on the banks of the river. Afterwards we will continue traveling northwest to where the Arenal Volcano located. You will arrive at the hotel in Arenal by late afternoon and enjoy the rest of the day on your own. Tonight we will live in the area of Arenal Volcano.

    Pacuare River

    The Pacuare River flows approximately 108 kilometres to the Caribbean. It is a popular location for white water rafting, whitewater kayaking and riverboarding. The rainforests that surround the river are home to exotic animal species such as jaguars, monkeys, ocelots, and a very large number of birds. It was also considered one of the 5 nicest rivers to practice rafting.

Day 7: Arenal Volcano National Park - La Fortuna (185 km)

We will start the day hiking across the Arenal Hanging Bridges where you can admire the jungle not only from the ground but also from the treetops. After your adventure on the hanging bridges, you will head to the La Fortuna Waterfall. There is time to put your bathing suit on if you want cool off under the waterfall. When you reach the bottom, you'll have an opportunity to swim in one of the largest cool waters in the whole area. After that, we will try a delicious Costa Rican "casado" at a local restaurant. Then we will continue to the Arenal Volcano National Park where your guide will take you on a nature walk. We will head through the jungle, hiking through easy trails that skirt around the base of the Arenal Volcano and learn about the volcanic activity in the area.

Day 8: Arenal Volcano - Monteverde (180 km)

Today we will travel to meet the Cloud Forest. We will across the Arenal Lake on the Jeep-Boat-Jeep to get to Monteverde. While we navigate the tranquil lake we can enjoy spectacular views of the volcano and find different species of birds. You will have the opportunity to explore the forest and get to know the friendly locals. By mid-afternoon, we will continue to a private property to see how a real "Trapiche" works. We begins with a short walk through the farm of sugar cane,coffee and more and learn about the entire coffee production process. After that we will continue with a ride on a Costa Rican oxcart. Then we will experience the process of making liquor with the sugar cane.We could also delight yourself with a cup of the locally produced coffee.

Today you will explore the Cloud Forest accompanied by an expert tour guide. We will departure from the hotel early so you will have more opportunities to see wildlife. Upon arrival to the reserve, your guide will choose the best trail to follow (depending on the weather and the interest of the participants). The nature history walk can take between 3 to 6 hours during which you will be able to enjoy the enchanting flora and fauna of the forest. We will hike part of the 12 Km of trails and may spot a quetzal or the noisy bell-bird. Afterwards we will return to the hotel. In the afternoon, you will enjoy the Zip line or Canopy Tour. We could also take photos so you can capture the amazing views of the cloud forest.

Day 10: Monteverde - Manuel Antonio Beach (123 km)

After breakfast, we will head to the Central Pacific area of Costa Rica. On the way you will get close to one of the biggest reptiles of the world. After a couple of hours we will stop at "Rio Grande de Tarcoles" river where we will start a safari boat tour accompanied by a captain and a your guide. We will have the opportunity to see magnificent reptiles as well as iguanas and basilisks. We could also take photos of them. After that, we will continue towards Manuel Antonio. The area itself is full of luxury and high-end properties, exclusive restaurants where you can sit and admire the ocean and spectacular sunsets. Overnight at Manuel Antonio Beach.

    A fee may be charged for any revision or alteration made to a reservation after the booking is confirmed. Name changes or corrections may be treated as a cancellation and cancellation fees will apply.   • Cancellations and Cancellation Fees
    Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed and pending bookings.     The refund amount will be credited directly to your TakeTours wallet as credits for future use. Or the refund can also be forwarded directly to your credit card with a 6% handling fee.
    NOTE: We cannot grant any refunds more than 30 days after completion of tour.
  • Itinerary Variations
    We constantly strives to improve tour itineraries and features. If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary - we reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute hotels. At certain peak periods duplicate departures may operate, and sometimes in reverse order in which case hotels may vary from those stated on the itinerary pages.
  • Tour Cancellation:
    We reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made any time prior to departure* of the tour, Taketours' only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking. We will try to re-book the same or similar tour..
