Called the "Lake of the Little Fishes" by natives, the emerald waters of Lake Louise in Alberta's Banff National park have been attracting tourists since the late 1800s. The lake gets its spectacular green color from glacial runoff that contains certain kinds of sediment. As the glaciers melt, they carry rock flour into the lake, and the minerals in the rocks produce the hues the lake is known for. The lake shares its name with a nearby hamlet.
