Pyramid of Djoser
Lying in the necropolis to the northwest of the ancient city of Memphis is this step-pyramid, built in the 27th century BC for the deceased Pharaoh Djoser by his vizier, Imhotep.
Memphis, EGYPT
Memphis was the ancient capital of Aneb-Hetch, the first nome of Lower Egypt. Its ruins are located near the town of Mit Rahina, 20 km (12 mi) south of Giza. According to legend related by Manetho, the city was founded by the pharaoh Menes.
Dahshur, EGYPT
A royal necropolis located in the desert on the west bank of the Nile. It is located approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of Cairo. It is known chiefly for several pyramids, two of which are among the oldest, largest and best preserved in Egypt, built from 2613 - 2589 BC.
Red Pyramid
The largest one of the three major pyramids located at the Dahshur necropolis in Cairo, Egypt. Named for the rusty reddish hue of its red limestone stones, it is also the third largest Egyptian pyramid, after those of Khufu and Khafra at Giza. Local residents refer to the Red Pyramid as el-heram el-watwaat, meaning the Bat Pyramid.
Bent Pyramid
The Bent Pyramid rises from the desert at a 54-degree inclination, but the top section (above 47 metres) is built at the shallower angle of 43 degrees, lending the pyramid its very obvious 'bent' appearance. It is an unique example of early pyramid development in Egypt.
