Day 1 Cuzco

Day 1: Cuzco

Today we will gather in Cuzco, CUS, Peru. After making their way to the Milhouse Backpackers & Hotel and checking in, guests may spend the day however they choose. There is a mandatory pre-departure briefing today (please see in Stop Note).

Day 2: Cuzco - Lares - Wakawasi (14000m, 5 hours approx)

Meal: Excluded
In the morning we will take a bus to Lares, CUS. From here, we will begin our 6-hour trek to the tiny village of Wakawasi. There, we will have the unique opportunity to meet local people who live in this beautiful area.

Day 3: Wakawasi - Patacancha (5562 km)

Meal: Excluded
We will start the day with an uphill 4-hour hike over Ipsayccocha Pass. After lunch, we will continue on for 3 more hours to Patacancha, CUS where we will camp for the night.

Day 4: Patacancha - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes (50 km)

Meal: Excluded
Today, we will make a visit to a local school (weekdays only) to learn about the education system of the Peruvian Highlands. Then we will walk for 4 more hours to Ollantaytambo, CUS for lunch. From there, we will take a train to Aguas Calientes, CUS, where we will spend the night.

    This small town north of Cuzco is built around an archaeological site. At the height off the Inca Empire, Ollantaytambo was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti. It is one of the starting points of the Inca Trail.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cuzco (110 km)

Meal: Excluded
We will catch one of the first buses to Machu Picchu so that we may see the early morning light over this amazing place. After a two-hour walking tour, guests will have time to explore on their own. Those who still have energy can climb Huayna Picchu, a mountain in the middle of the ancient town. We will return to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon and from there take a train to Ollantaytambo and then a bus back to Cuzco.

  • You will be picked up at 5:30am on Day 2.
  • There is a mandatory pre-departure briefing at our Cuzco Headquarters one day prior to departure at 5pm, 6pm or 7pm depending on your trek. You will receive detailed information on your excursion, a list of what to bring and confirm your departure details.
  • PRE-DEPARTURE CHECK-IN: Please make sure to check-in with your passport before your pre-departure briefing. We encourage our travellers to check-in at our offices a couple of hours before or any day prior to the briefing , that way we can give everybody personal attention and information regarding booking extras, rental equipment or questions in general.
  • Time schedule for meetings will be:
    - Inca Trail and Lares 6pm
    - Salkantay, Inca Quarry, Machu Picchu Jungle, Ausangate, Choquequirao 7pm
    - Inca Trail Express, Rainbow Mountain, Machu Picchu by Train, Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu, Machu Picchu Full Day 5pm

  • 1 night hostel accommodation in Cuzco; 1 night hostel accommodation in Aguas Calientes
  • Meals: 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 3 dinners, 3 snacks with typical menus (special dietary considerations available with prior notice)

  • Tips (Please remember that tipping is 100% optional and depends entirely on the service you received. It is customary to give tips in Latin America, however it is NOT mandatory. If you do wish to give a tip, these are our recommended guidelines.)

  • Assistant Guide: 30-40 soles per trekker
  • Horsemen: 60-80 soles for each horseman from the whole group
  • Cook: 150-200 soles for the cook from the whole group

  • Language: All tours are escorted by professional bi- or multi-lingual tour and/or driver guides (English/Spanish). Depending on the number of passengers booked for a particular departure, tours and/or languages may be combined to operate the tours.

Confirmation

  • Please do not book any airline tickets until you receive the status of your booking.
  • Immediately after submitting your reservation you will receive a receipt of booking by email. Within 36 hours of submitting your reservation you will receive a confirmation email confirming the booking status.

Redemption

  • Complete operator information, including local telephone numbers at your destination, are included on your e-ticket. You must print and bring e-ticket(s) on your trip, as they serve as proof of purchase.

  • Cancellations and Cancellation Fees: Regardless of reason, cancellations result in costly charges from our travel and hotel providers covering penalties and fees incurred by canceling confirmed and pending bookings. Therefore, cancellation penalties and or fees will apply.The refund amount will be credited directly to your TakeTours wallet as credits for future use. Or the refund can also be forwarded directly to your credit card with a 6% handling fee.Time of cancellation will be determined when notice is received and confirmed by our office.   • Unused features are non-refundable. No shows forfeit entire payment.
  • Trips require a minimum number of participants to avoid cancellation. We reserve the right to cancel a schedule trip to fully refund affected customers although tour companies will make every efforts to maintain the normal operation.
  • Itinerary Variations: We constantly strives to improve tour itineraries and features. If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary - we reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute hotels. At certain peak periods duplicate departures may operate, and sometimes in reverse order in which case hotels may vary from those stated on the itinerary pages.
  • Tour Cancellation: We reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made any time prior to departure* of the tour, Taketours' only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking. We will try to re-book the same or similar tour.. Please note that we are not liable for any cancellation penalties incurred on any other travel arrangements including air tickets purchased separately from customers.
