Overview
This 4 day heart stopping adventure is the perfect combination of an adrenaline pumping 3,000 meter mountain biking descent followed by trekking into the backwoods of the Andes and passing through local villages to see the way of life in mountain communities such as Santa Teresa and Santa Maria. The ultimate ending to an excellent trip is the one and only Machu Picchu archaeological site.

Day 1: Cuzco

Today we will gather in Cuzco, CUS, Peru. After making their way to the Milhouse Backpackers & Hotel and checking in, guests may spend the day however they choose. There is a mandatory pre-departure briefing today (please see in Stop Note).

Day 2: Cuzco - Ollantaytambo - Santa Maria (157 km)

Meal: Excluded
In the morning we will leave Cuzco for Ollantaytambo, CUS, where we will have breakfast. We will then drive up the mountain pass near Abra Malaga for a final safety briefing before beginning our bike trek through the jungle. Over the course of our 2.5-hour ride, we will see sights such as fruit plantations and the Huamanmarka Archaeological Site. Our ride will take us to Santa Maria, CUS. Optional: Here, you can take an 2.5-hour Urubamba River Rafting Adventure, if you wish. We will spend the night in Santa Maria..

    Ollantaytambo, PERU
    This small town north of Cuzco is built around an archaeological site. At the height off the Inca Empire, Ollantaytambo was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti. It is one of the starting points of the Inca Trail.

Day 3: Santa Maria - Santa Teresa (220 km)

Meal: Excluded
We will spend the day hiking through the amazing Peruvian landscapes. In the afternoon, we will arrive in Santa Teresa, CUS, where we will spend the night. Guests may also opt to enjoy some time in the Hot Springs at their own expense.

Day 4: Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes (12 km)

Standard Hotel: Single travelers will share a room with 1 other traveler, couples will have a private room

After having breakfast at 8:00 am, our last day on the trail will take us from Santa Teresa along a relaxing path for 3 hours to reach the hydroelectric station where a box lunch will be served. From here Aguas Calientes is another 3 hour slight uphill walk where we will finally have time to relax, recharge our batteries and get ready for our visit to Machu Picchu. Dinner at a local traditional restaurant.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cuzco (110 km)

Meal: Excluded
We will catch one of the first buses to Machu Picchu so that we may see the early morning light over this amazing place. After a two-hour walking tour, guests will have time to explore on their own. Those who still have energy can climb Huayna Picchu, a mountain in the middle of the ancient town. We will return to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon and from there take a train to Ollantaytambo and then a bus back to Cuzco.

  • You will be picked up between 6:40-7:00am on Day 2.
  • There is a mandatory pre-departure briefing at our Cuzco Headquarters one day prior to departure at 5pm, 6pm or 7pm depending on your trek. You will receive detailed information on your excursion, a list of what to bring and confirm your departure details.
  • PRE-DEPARTURE CHECK-IN: Please make sure to check-in with your passport before your pre-departure briefing. We encourage our travellers to check-in at our offices a couple of hours before or any day prior to the briefing , that way we can give everybody personal attention and information regarding booking extras, rental equipment or questions in general.
  • Time schedule for meetings will be:
    - Inca Trail and Lares 6pm
    - Salkantay, Inca Quarry, Machu Picchu Jungle, Ausangate, Choquequirao 7pm
    - Inca Trail Express, Rainbow Mountain, Machu Picchu by Train, Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu, Machu Picchu Full Day 5pm

  • Itinerary Variations: We constantly strives to improve tour itineraries and features. If such improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary - we reserve the right to vary itineraries and to substitute hotels. At certain peak periods duplicate departures may operate, and sometimes in reverse order in which case hotels may vary from those stated on the itinerary pages.
  • Tour Cancellation: We reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements or circumstances beyond its control. If cancellation is made any time prior to departure* of the tour, Taketours' only liability will be to refund to the passenger the amount it has received for the tour booking. We will try to re-book the same or similar tour.. Please note that we are not liable for any cancellation penalties incurred on any other travel arrangements including air tickets purchased separately from customers.
