Day 1:
Cuzco
Today we will gather in Cuzco, CUS, Peru. After making their way to the Milhouse Backpackers & Hotel and checking in, guests may spend the day however they choose. There is a mandatory pre-departure briefing today (please see in Stop Note).
Day 2:
Cuzco - Mollepata - Sayallapata (142 km)

In the very early morning, we will be bussed to Mollepata, CUS for breakfast. After making final preparations and double checking our equipment, we will make the 4-hour hike us to Sayllapata, where we will get to view Salkantay. We will then begin the climb to our first campsite, Soraypampa, the harshest we will experience. We will spend the night there.
Day 3:
Sayallapata - Challhuay - Colcapampa (102 km)

We will have breakfast at around 6:00 am and begin our 4-hour walk to the highest pass on this trek (4,650m) located halfway between 2 huge mountains; Salkantay on the right and Humantay on the left. (Optional horse rental available to reach high pass for approx. 100 - 120 soles). From the pass, the views of the 2 snow-capped mountains are incredible with a possibility of snow here. After a 2-hour downhill hike, a well-deserved lunch will be served at Huayracpampa, followed by another 3-hour trek to our campsite at Challhuay or Colcapampa as we near the beginning of the high jungle region at 2,900 meters.
Day 4:
Colcapampa - Santa Teresa (20 km)

After breakfast at 6:30 am, we will make our way across the Urubamba River. We will have lunch in the village of La Playa and spend some time in Santa Teresa. Guests will have the chance to visit the Cocalmayo Hot Springs at their own expense.
Day 5:
Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes (12 km)

After having breakfast at 8:00 am, our last day on the trail will take us from Santa Teresa along a relaxing path for 3 hours to reach the hydroelectric station where a box lunch will be served. From here Aguas Calientes is another 3 hour slight uphill walk where we will finally have time to relax, recharge our batteries and get ready for our visit to Machu Picchu. Dinner at a local traditional restaurant.
Day 6:
Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Cuzco (76 km)

From Aguas Calientes, we will catch a dawn bus to Machu Picchu. After a two-hour guided tour of the ruins, guests will have time to explore at their leisure. There is an optional climb of the Huayna Picchu Peak for those who wish to push themselves even further. In the afternoon we will travel by train to Ollantaytambo, CUS and from there return to Cuzco by bus.

Machu Picchu, PERU
The famous citadel of the Inca sits atop a scraggy mountain peak overlooking the valley that was sacred to those people. These ruins feature many temples and the famous terraced-gardens the Inca developed for agriculture in the Andes.

Ollantaytambo, PERU
This small town north of Cuzco is built around an archaeological site. At the height off the Inca Empire, Ollantaytambo was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti. It is one of the starting points of the Inca Trail.
