"Guano" is a euphemism for bat dung, and in the early 1900s that is exactly what was taken from the mine at Guano Point. The dung was used in explosives and fertilizer, and was incredibly profitable until the middle of the century. The mine closed in 1960, but much of the old infrastructure is still there, and makes for an interesting historical relic. Of course, Guano Point also offers spectacular views of the Grand Canyon from the West Rim.
