The largest dam of its time, the Hoover Dam was constructed in just five years by thousands of workers. The entire project required 3.25 million cubic yards of concrete and is almost 750 feet high. The Hoover Dam holds Lake Mead, a reservoir of the Colorado River, and provides power and flood control for areas in Nevada, Arizona, and California. The picturesque lake is located in southern Nevada's Black Canyon, some 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas.
