This fortified tower off the coast of Lisbon, also known as the Tower of St. Vincent, was built to defend the city in the 16th century. It was built in the Portuguese Manueline style of architecture of the 16th century, which is essentially a synthesis of Gothic and contemporary Iberian styles with the additional influence of elements discovered by Portuguese explorers returning from the New World.
