Day 1: Marrakech

Arrival in Marrakech. Welcome to Morocco! We'll transfer you to the hotel and, in the afternoon, you'll enjoy a traditional horse-drawn carriage ride to the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa Square (included). Dinner will be included.

Day 2: Marrakech

We will start the day with a guided tour of the city which gave the country its name. We will get to know the great walls of the city, the bustling Jemaa square, walk through the colorful Medina and see the Kutubia tower. We will visit to the Bahia Palace (ticket included). Lunch included. There will be free time in the afternoon: you can take a rest in the pool and the garden of the hotel, or walk around the Medina with its many shops, riads (small hotels), and restaurants established in beautiful historical buildings which have been perfectly preserved. We strongly recommend visiting the area where the “Secret Garden” and the Music Museum are located. In the evening, you can experience a Fantasia dinner and cultural show (optional).

    "Bahia" means "brilliance," and one would be hard-pressed to come up with a more apt descriptor for the Bahia Palace in Marrakech, a 19th-century complex that was intended to be the most magnificent palace in the world.

Day 3: Marrakech - Ait Benhadou - Ourzazate - Boulmane Dades (193 km)

We will journey across the Atlas Mountains as their, usually snow-capped, high peaks will greet us as we say goodbye to Marrakech. Small Berber villages perch on the side of chasms. We will interrupt our journey to stop at the fortified village of Ait Benhadou, a place where several films have been filmed. At this point in our trip, our route will be going through the so-called biblical landscapes. We will spend some time in Ourzazate city with its impressive Kasbah. We will continue toward the valley of Roses. Boulmane Dades.

NOTE: On very rare occasions (during winter), the roads may be closed due to snowdrifts. If necessary, this section of the itinerary will be rescheduled according to our alternative itinerary. (Whether we can visit the Sahara or not will depend on road access).

Day 4: Boulmane Dades - Todgha - Khorbat - Erfoud

A journey full of excitement in the Sahara Desert: the Valley of the Kasbahs; river valleys containing thousands of palm trees; Stone plains followed by oasis and adobe villages, powerful fortresses defending the thoroughfares. We will visit the stunningly magnificent Todgha. On the way there, we shall stop at a small town built with adobe next to Khorbat, visitors will be able to learn about this desert community, which is supported by the Europamundo Foundation. (Note: due to weather conditions, such as river flooding, access might not possible at times).
We will continue toward Erfoud. Lunch included. Anyone who wishes to, can go on a field trip to visit the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert (and experience dusk among the dunes).

    Erfoud is known as the ‘Gate of the Sahara Desert’. It is also a great destination for filmmakers due to the quality of the natural light and the beauty of the surrounding villages and desert oases.

Day 5: Erfoud - Fez (299 km)

We'll depart early from Erfoud, crossing the Atlas Mountains amidst impressive gorges and stunning landscapes. We'll traverse a high, cold plateau inhabited by nomadic shepherds. Our first stop will be in Midelt, located at the heart of this region. After lunch, we´ll continue our journey towards the Middle Atlas, where the scenery changes dramatically to a region characterized by forests and frequent winter snowfall. Near AZROU, in the National Park, we'll visit "The House of Cedars", a small museum providing insights into the region. Here, we'll also see the colonies of monkeys that inhabit the area. We'll continue to Bhalil, a small and quiet village home to Berbers of the Middle Atlas. Its old center is very picturesque, with colorful streets. Traditionally, the population lived in caves, which have now been integrated into the houses. Continuing onward, we´ll head to Fez. Before reaching our hotel, we'll take in the panoramic view of the city from the Saadian Tombs. Dinner will be provided.

Day 6: Fez - Volubilis - Moulay Idriss - Meknes (627 km)

We'll include a city tour of Fez, entering through the Bronze Gates of the Royal Palace, exploring the Jewish quarter, its bustling souks, and the tannery district. Known as the cultural capital of the country and home to the oldest university in the world, Fez is renowned for its impressive Medina, which preserves the traditional Arab atmosphere like no other. We will end the visit with lunch at an ancient palace in the Medina (included).

After lunch, admission will be included to the Archaeological Site of Volubilis, a World Heritage Site. Founded in the third century BC, Volubilis was the capital of Mauretania Tingitana and served as an important military outpost of the Roman Empire, where numerous beautiful monuments were built.

We'll then visit Moulay Idriss, a holy city and pilgrimage site for Muslims in Morocco, as it is the burial place of the great-grandson of Muhammad and founder of the first royal dynasty of Morocco. The city was closed to non-Muslims until 1912, and until 2005, non-Muslims could not stay overnight there. We will continue to Meknes for dinner (included) and accommodation.

    Royal Palace gate

    It is the royal palace of the Sultan of Alaouite in Fez, Morocco. The palace is located in the Fez Jdid district. It is 80 hectares in size and is known for its brass doors decorated with hard tiles and carved cedarwood. The palace is not open to the public.
  • Volubilis, Morocco

    The Mauritanian capital, founded in the 3rd century B.C., became an important outpost of the Roman Empire and was graced with many fine buildings. Extensive remains of these survive in the archaeological site, located in a fertile agricultural area.
  • Moulay Idriss, Morocco

    Moulay Idriss, Morocco’s holiest town, is named after its founder, Idriss I, who established the first Islamic dynasty. Nestled between two hills, its whitewashed alleys and sacred mausoleum attract pilgrims.

Day 7: Meknes - Rabat - Casablanca (250 km)

Visit of Meknes, another fascinating city declared a World Heritage Site. The Sultan Muley Ismail built an impressive city of Spanish-Moorish style, surrounding it with high walls, marked by monumental doors. We will be astonished by the immense gate of Bab el Mansur, the activity in the square el Hedim (reminiscent of the D, Jemaa square of Marrakesh). We include admission to the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail.

After the visit, you will have free time and then we will continue our journey by bus. Time for lunch in the service area and arrival in Rabatcity tour of the capital of the Kingdom. We visit the powerful fortress of the Oudaia, the Hassan tower where the mausoleum of King Mohamed V is located, the walls of the Andalusians, the outer enclosure of the Royal Palace and the modern quarters of embassies. After our visit, free time and continuation of route.

  • Meknes, Morocco

    Meknes is a city in northern Morocco. Meknes was the capital of Morocco under the reign of Moulay Ismail (1672-1727), the founder of the Alaouite dynasty.

    Bab el-Mansour

    Named for its architect, the Bab el-Mansour is a large gate into the city of Meknes, covered with intricate mosaic designs. The interior of the gate is often used as an art gallery to exhibit local pieces.

    Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail

    Built in 1703 and restored in 1960. A string of patios lined with blind walls leads to the ablutions court, surrounded by a colonnade. Along the walls runs a stucco frieze. The Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail is a must-visit destination for those intrigued by history and architecture.

    Rabat is the capital and fourth largest city of Morocco. Tourism and the presence of all foreign embassies in Morocco serve to make Rabat one of the most important cities in the country.

    Hassan Tower

    The Hassan Tower is all that remains of an incomplete mosque, built in the 12th century AD, that was intended to be the world's largest. The Tower is only half as high as originally intended.

    Royal Palace (Outside Visit)

    The Royal Palace is the main official residence of the Moroccan king. It is located in the town of Touarga, the capital of Rabat.Located at the end of the church, the palace was built in 1864 and is the main residence of the royal family. It is forbidden for tourists.

    Chellah

    Chellah is a ruin of a walled wall, just a short walk from the current Medina of Rabat, south of the Ville Nouvelle. Chellah is a medieval fortified Muslim cemetery on the south side of the Bou Regreg estuary in the metropolitan area of Rabat, Morocco.

Day 8: Casablanca - Marrakech (219 km)

This morning, we'll start with an included guided tour of Morocco's largest city and economic center. We’ll stroll along the grand avenues, visit the beautiful Mohamed V Square with its fountain, Moorish buildings, and palm trees, and walk through the Arab League Park. We’ll also explore the little Medina. Our tour includes admission to the impressive Hassan II Mosque (the only mosque in Morocco open to non-Muslims), located by the sea and featuring a 210-meter-high minaret with laser lights pointing to Mecca. After the tour, you’ll have free time for lunch in the pleasant maritime area of La Corniche.

After, we'll travel to Marrakech. Dinner will be included at the hotel.
