The building that became the Montreal Biodome was originally constructed in 1973 for the Montreal Olympic games as an area for track cycling and judo events known as a velodrome. The building was converted into a zoo and nature museum in 1992. The Biodome is separated into four areas, each representing an ecosystem in the western hemisphere. The area are: the Tropical Forest, the Laurentian Forest, the Saint Lawrence Marine Ecosystem, and a polar area.
