Travel to Old Montreal
In 1605, Samuel de Champlain set up a trading post, and, technically, Montreal was founded. The post would ultimately be abandoned until the 1640s, when the first permanent settlement was founded as a point from which missionaries could convert local natives. Today, some of the buildings from the 17th century still stand, and they have made Old Montreal a popular place for tourists with an eye for history. In addition to walking tours, horse-drawn carriages cart people around.
