Rockefeller Center was actually not named for mogul and philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, but for his son, John D. Rockefeller, Jr, who was the one responsible for the purchase and development of the area into what people know it as today. The most famous building in this massive 22-acre complex is Radio City Music Hall, which was said to be the largest and more elaborate music theater worldwide at the time. Many people also enjoying ice skating on the plaza.
