This complex in New York City has served as the global headquarters of the United Nations for more than 60 years. The area has extraterritoriality status, meaning it is technically not bound by the laws of New York or even the United States, although crimes committed on the premises will still be prosecuted. The visitor center is in the process of being relocated between buildings due to renovations on the complex, and tours must be scheduled in advance.
