Travel to Santa Monica Pier
Originally this was two piers, one of which was utilitarian in function, and was combined into two in 1916 when it was bought by the father-son entrepreneurial team of Charles I. D. and Arthur Looff. The pier thrived during the roaring twenties, but like most entertainment facilities of its kind, was badly affected by the Great Depression. Many of its attractions were sold off, and it functioned as a ferry dock. Today it is as popular as ever.
