This amazing opera house traces its origins to the middle of the 1800s. Its prestigious orchestra members often go on to become players in the Vienna Philharmonic. The neo-Renaissance facade is beloved today, but unpopular at the time of construction. Toward the end of World War II, the opera house was attacked by Allied forces. The historic front part, including the facade and frescoes, were undamaged, but the auditorium itself has to be completely rebuilt.
