Mud is hardly the most exciting thing to look at, and yet the Fountain Paint Pot at Yellowstone National Park defies that: heated by the region's underground hot springs, Fountain Paint Pot is classified as a mud pot (half hot spring and half pool of mud). The spring releases natural shades of red and yellow because of the oxidation of iron in the soil.
