Day 1: Reykjavik - Golden Circle (241 km)

After getting picked up from the hotel in Reykjavik, we will set our along the Golden Circlethe most popular tourist route in Iceland. If you wish to spice up your already exciting day, you can optional to take a horse riding tour. Along the way, we will visit Thingvellir National Park, the Geyser Geothermal Area and Gullfoss. We will spend the night at a place where is located far away from any light pollution, providing a fantastic opportunity to see the beautiful Auroras. We should be sure to watch the skies at night for a chance to see the Northern Lights.
  • Golden Circle, ICELAND

    Iceland's Golden Circle is the country's most popular tourist route, featuring several of the top geological formations in the country, such as the geysers of Strokkur and Geysir, as well as the Gullfoss waterfall.

    Geysir

    Considered the first geyser discovered by modern Europeans, the eruptions of Geysir can send boiling water up to 70 meters in the air. Only 50 meters away is Strokkur, another famous Icelandic geyser.

    Gullfoss

    This waterfall in southwest Iceland is one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. It is a multi-tiered waterfall, which all empties into a crevice 32 meters deep.

    Horse riding

    You will have the pleasure of meeting the friendly and intelligent Icelandic horse. Appropriate for novices and experienced riders alike, you will take in the gorgeous Icelandic countryside from the saddle.

    Thingvellir National Park is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most popular tourist destination in Iceland. Thingvellir has unusual tectonic and volcanic geological features and visitors can enjoy a wide array of activities including camping, hiking, and scuba diving.

Day 2: Golden Circle - Selfoss - Vik (223 km)

Today we will head to the south shore of Iceland where we will take in views of the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss. A bit further along, we will see the Solheimajokull glacier tongue towering over the black sands below. We can choose to go glacier hiking. Along the coast, we will see black sand beaches and sea stacks. Around dinner time, we will check into our accommodations in Vik.
  • Selfoss, ICELAND

    Selfoss is the largest town in southern Iceland, the Icelandic Route 1 runs through the town on its way between Hverageroi and Hella.

    Seljalandsfoss

    This waterfall in Iceland is situated between the town of Selfoss and another waterfall, Skogafoss. At a height of 200 feet, it marks where the coastline of Iceland once was thousands of years ago.
  • Solheimajokull Glacier, ICELAND

    Solheimajokull glacier is one of the stunning outlet glaciers originated from Myrdalsjokull ice cap. The glacier tongue extends in the length of eight kilometers with two kilometers in width.
  • Vik, ICELAND

    There are many natural places of interest in the small beachside town of Vík, including puffin and arctic tern breeding grounds, a spectacular set of rock columns known as Reynisdrangar, and Dyrhólaey. There are also hiking trails, bird-watching trips, and horseback riding on the black sands or snowmobile on Mýrdalsjökull.

    Skogafoss

    This waterfall in Iceland lies along the Skoga River where it once drained into the sea. The cliff at the top of the waterfall marks where the old coastline of Iceland was.

Day 3: Vik - Skaftafell Nature Reserve - Jokulsarlon (175 km)

Your first destination of the day will be Skaftafell Nature Reserve. The second site will be the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The true highlight of this day would be a visit to a natural ice cave. If you are travelling between November and March, you'll visit a cave in Vatnajokull glacier in the afternoon; otherwise, you'll start the with a caving excursion at Myrdalsjokull glacier in the morning. You will spend the night in the southeast. Remember to check the skies for signs of the dancing Northern Lights.
  • Skaftafell National Park, ICELAND

    The second national park, Skaftafell, is established in 1967 and about 400-500 square kilometres. It contains some of the most precious natural pearls of the country. The rugged landscapes, mountains and glaciers, the flora and the fauna have a magnetic influence on the visitors.
  • Jokulsarlon, ICELAND

    Jokulsarlon, ICELAND
    A large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, on the edge of Vatnajokull National Park. Situated at the head of the Breioamerkurjokull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

    Ice Caves

    Ice caves such as the one you will be exploring are rare and natural phenomena that have formed over extended periods of time. After the meltwater of spring begins to freeze each fall, locals of the area start their annual ice cave hunt, which is why the exact location of the caves changes each year.

Day 4: Jokulsarlon - East Fjords - Egilsstaðir (158 km)

Today you will be exploring the beautiful and remote Eastfjords. Travelling through mountainous passes with the ocean to your left, your guide will make a number of stops along these meandering passages. As well as being known for its dramatic fjords, this area is characterised by its breathtaking beaches, littered with multi-coloured pebbles and rocks. We will also enjoy the views of picturesque fishing villages and spend the night in Egilsstaðir.
  • Egilsstaðir, ICELAND

    As well as being the largest town in the Eastfjords, it is also close to the largest forest in Iceland, Hallormsstaðaskógar and the lake Lagafljót in which a legendary water monster is said to reside.

Day 5: Egilsstaoir - Myvatn (174 km)

Today, we will travel to Lake Myvatn, known for its incredible geothermal landscape, including the Námaskarð, the Dimmuborgir lava formations. After exploring these wonders, we can relax in the soothing waters of the Myvatn Nature Baths. If the sky is clear of clouds, remember to look up for a chance to see the Northern Lights before you turn in for the night to your Myvatn accommodation.
  • Myvatn, ICELAND

    This lake in northern Iceland is situated in an area of volcanic activity. The landscape is dominated by volcanic formations, and even the lake itself was formed from an eruption over 2,300 years ago.

    Namaskard

    If you didn't know any better, you would think that this area of volcanic and geothermal activity in northern Iceland was actually Mars! Travelers, be wary: though the landscape is fascinating, the sulfuric stench is pungent!

    Dimmuborgir

    This large area is loaded with fascinating volcanic formations. The name Dimmuborgir means "dark fortresses," a reference to the ominous citadel-like shape of these structures. The area is one of Iceland's most popular natural attractions.

Day 6: Myvatn - Akureyri - Reykjavik (339 km)

Your guide will take you to the "Capital of the North", Akureyri from which your plane departs. Before you cross the mountain pass to get there, however, you will make a quick stop at the waterfall, Goðafoss.
You will arrive back in Reykjavik in the early afternoon. It is highly recommended that you book your flight home the day after arriving in Reykjavík as bad weather and delays could affect your journey.

    Nicknamed the Capital of North Iceland, Akureyri is an important port and fishing centre. The area where Akureyri is located was settled in the 9th century but did not receive a municipal charter until 1786. The town was the site of Allied units during World War II.

    You can cancel your multi day tour up to 7 days before departure and receive an 85% refund. The 15% service fee is to cover our cost of planning and arrangement. You can not cancel any individual services within a package within 7 days before departure.The refund amount will be credited directly to your TakeTours wallet as credits for future use. Or the refund can also be forwarded directly to your credit card with a 6% handling fee.
    If we cancel your tour due to weather conditions or any other circumstances you will always receive a full refund. If a volcanic eruption stops you from getting to Iceland you will also receive a full refund on tours.
